Espresso
The House Espresso, pulled at the roastery bar.
Copperline is a specialty roaster in Alexandria. We roast Monday and Thursday in small batches and sell the coffee three ways: online and by subscription, at the roastery bar, and wholesale to forty cafés and offices.
We also teach the barista academy upstairs and service espresso machines on our own bench, because the best coffee in the world tastes bad through a scaled-up boiler.
Nadia opened Copperline in 2016 with a 5kg roaster in a garage in St Peters. The first wholesale customer was the café at the end of the street, which still buys from us. The service bench started because our cafés kept losing a day's trade waiting for a technician. Now we send one.
A roast date on every bag. Green coffee bought from importers who can name the farm. Wholesale partners visited every month, not every contract renewal. And staff paid above award, including the Saturday roster.
Copperline Coffee Roasters collects only what it needs to do the work, keeps it for three years, and anonymises rather than deletes so the record of what happened survives the person leaving.
A complaint reaches the owner the same day. You get an answer within two working days and a named person who owns it until it is closed.
Sydney's roaster for people who care when their coffee was roasted — at home, at work and behind the café counter.
People with a good grinder who want coffee that is days old, not months.
Independent cafés who need a roaster who turns up.
Teams of 10–40 who want good coffee without a barista.
Four hours on a commercial machine: dialling in, milk texture, workflow. Eight seats. Certificate of completion.
Hearts, tulips and rosettas, with a trainer at your elbow. For people who can already steam milk.
Bring your machine and grinder. We dial them in with your beans and fix your workflow.
Six coffees, blind, and a roaster explaining what you're tasting. Ten seats.
Full service on our bench: group seals, shower screens, descale, pressure and temperature check. Loan grinder while you wait for parts.
Diagnosis and repair of café machines, on site or on our bench. Quoted after inspection.
Blend development, grinder calibration, staff training and a supply agreement. Quoted per site.

Roasted in Melbourne and Addis Ababa before opening Copperline in 2016. Cups every batch before it ships.
Looks after the forty cafés and offices, and calibrates their grinders himself once a month.

Twelve years on commercial machines. The reason we can promise a loan grinder.

"I've had the fortnightly subscription for a year. The bag says when it was roasted and it's never older than four days when it lands."
"Descaling with vinegar, apparently. They fixed the boiler, showed me the right way, and didn't upsell me a new machine."
"Four hours on a commercial machine with somebody who has trained half the baristas in Surry Hills. I'm pouring hearts now."
"Coffee is excellent. The courier took three days to Castle Hill instead of the promised two — they told me before I had to ask."
"They calibrate our grinder every month and trained our new staff for free. We've had three other roasters; none of them came back after the contract."
"Booked in, waited all day, nobody came and nobody called. I took the day off for nothing."
